Cabra Castle Wedding Photography & Film

Relaxed, cinematic wedding photography and film at Cabra Castle.

Set among woodland and countryside in County Cavan, Cabra Castle is one of Ireland's most distinctive wedding venues — full of character, atmosphere and the kind of old-world details that make it incredible to photograph.

We've photographed weddings at Cabra Castle many times over the years, in different seasons, different weather and with very different plans for the day.

And that's one of the things we love about it.

From the anticipation of the morning preparations and the ceremony itself to portraits around the grounds, speeches, evening light and a packed dance floor, Cabra gives every part of the wedding its own atmosphere.

At McGlade Photography & Film, our approach is relaxed and story-led. We photograph and film the day naturally as it unfolds, stepping in with a little direction when it's useful but never turning your wedding into a production.

Weddings at Cabra Castle

Cabra works particularly well because so much of the wedding can happen in one place.

Preparations, ceremony, drinks reception, dinner and evening celebrations can all flow naturally without needing to build the day around travelling between locations.

For photography and film, that's a huge advantage.

Instead of losing an hour driving somewhere for photographs, we can work around the castle and grounds, choose a handful of great locations and keep the portrait session relaxed and relatively short.

Which means you get the photographs - and still get to enjoy your drinks reception.

Wedding Photography at Cabra Castle

Cabra has no shortage of places to photograph.

The castle itself gives us beautiful architecture and character, while the surrounding woodland, gardens, pathways and countryside give us completely different options within a short distance.

But having dozens of possible locations doesn't mean we need to use every one of them.

Our approach is normally to choose the locations that suit the light, weather and timing of your wedding.

We'll give you enough direction that you never have to wonder what you're supposed to be doing, but we don't want the photographs to feel overly posed.

A walk, a little conversation and twenty or thirty minutes together is usually far more valuable than spending an hour working through a list of poses.

Beautiful portraits without turning your wedding into a photoshoot.

A Castle Made for Atmosphere

One of our favourite things about Cabra is that it doesn't rely entirely on perfect weather.

On a bright summer afternoon the grounds give us beautiful natural colour and light.

Later in the year, or when the Irish weather inevitably decides to become involved, the darker interiors, stonework and old-world character of the castle create a completely different atmosphere.

We don't need every Cabra wedding to look the same.

Quite the opposite.

We'd rather use the season, weather and light you're actually given and make them part of the photographs.

Photography & Film - One Team

Cabra is a venue where photography and film work particularly well together.

The scale and atmosphere of the castle give film a wonderful sense of place, while the quieter moments — preparations, reactions, vows, speeches and conversations — give the story its emotion.

When you book photography and film with us, you aren't bringing two unrelated crews into your wedding.

We work together as one small team with the same approach to the day.

We understand where each other needs to be, we're not competing for the same moments and we're not repeatedly asking you to recreate something because somebody missed it.

One team. One approach. One complete story.

Wedding Films at Cabra Castle

A wedding film preserves something photographs simply can't.

Movement.

Music.

Laughter.

And most importantly, voices.

The cinematic highlights film tells the emotional story of the wedding, while the full ceremony and speeches preserve the words that were actually spoken.

Your vows.

The readings.

A parent's speech.

The story the best man probably shouldn't have told.

Those recordings often become considerably more valuable as the years pass.

And Cabra's architecture, grounds and surrounding landscape give us a beautiful backdrop for telling that story.

Cinematic Next Day Edit

Your wedding, professionally filmed in a cinematic vertical format and delivered the following day.

Created for the way we watch and share today, our Cinematic Next Day Edit brings together the atmosphere, movement and emotion of your wedding in a beautifully crafted short film - ready to relive while the day still feels wonderfully fresh.

Relive it tomorrow. Treasure it forever.

A Relaxed Cabra Castle Wedding Timeline

Every wedding is different, but when the day is centred around Cabra Castle, we can usually keep things beautifully simple.

Around two hours before the ceremony

Photography and film coverage begins with preparations, details, family and the atmosphere building before the ceremony.

Ceremony

Natural coverage of arrivals, reactions, vows and all those little moments happening around you.

After the ceremony

Congratulations first. We don't immediately drag you away from everyone.

Family photographs

A short list prepared beforehand allows us to get the important combinations photographed efficiently.

Couple portraits

Usually around twenty to thirty minutes using a handful of locations around Cabra.

Back to the drinks reception

This is your wedding. Go enjoy it.

Dinner & speeches

Natural photography and, with our Photography & Film collection, professional recording of the speeches.

Evening

If the light is beautiful, we may borrow you for another ten minutes before returning for the first dance and celebrations.

Before the wedding we'll go through everything properly with you and build the photography and film around your plans - not the other way around.

What If It Rains at Cabra Castle?

It probably will at some point.

It's an Irish castle. It would almost be suspicious if it didn't. 😂

Fortunately, Cabra is one of those venues where rain doesn't ruin the visual possibilities.

The castle interiors and covered areas give us alternatives, and we're always watching conditions for small breaks in the weather.

We don't need two hours of sunshine.

Sometimes ten minutes at exactly the right moment is enough.

And moody skies, wet stone and evening rain can actually suit Cabra incredibly well.

The objective isn't to make your wedding look like somebody else's sunny July wedding.

It's to make your wedding look incredible.

Wedding Albums

Our Photography Collection includes a handcrafted Italian storybook wedding album.

Because although online galleries are wonderful for sharing photographs, we still believe wedding photographs ultimately deserve to exist somewhere other than a screen.

An album is something you can hold.

Something parents and children can pick up.

And something that quietly becomes more valuable as the years pass.

Your wedding photographs shouldn't spend the next forty years living behind a password.

Cabra Castle Wedding Photography FAQs

FAQ

Have you photographed weddings at Cabra Castle before?

Yes. Having photographed weddings at Cabra Castle over the years, knowing how the castle and grounds flow helps us plan photography and film around the wedding rather than interrupting it. We know how the preparation spaces, ceremony, grounds and reception areas work together throughout the day - and where to go for photographs depending on the light, weather and time of year.

How much time should we allow for couple photographs?

We normally recommend around 20–30 minutes during the drinks reception, rather than disappearing for a long portrait session. If the evening light is particularly beautiful, we may suggest stepping outside again for another ten minutes later in the day.

What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

Not a problem. Cabra Castle works beautifully in all kinds of weather, with atmospheric interiors and plenty of options around the castle and grounds. We keep an eye on the weather throughout the day and, if there’s a break in the rain, we can usually get everything we need outside in a short amount of time. We’ll work around the weather rather than letting it dictate your wedding day.

Can you cover both partners getting ready?

Yes. With photography and film coverage, we can plan the morning around both sets of preparations. Because everything can happen within the estate, equal coverage is often much easier than when preparations are taking place at different locations.

Do you provide both photography and wedding film?

Yes. McGlade Photography & Film provides combined photography and cinematic wedding-film coverage with one coordinated team. Photography-only and Photography with Next Day Edit collections are also available.
