Carole & Stephen — The Shelbourne
Trinity College & The Shelbourne, Dublin
Some weddings come back to you in little moments. Carole and Stephen’s comes back with the noise of Dublin, rain on the gear bags, and a crowd cheering as they arrived at The Shelbourne.
They had such a lovely theatrical energy: stylish, expressive and completely up for enjoying themselves. Their wedding took us from the grandeur of Trinity College to the bustle of the city streets, with plenty of laughter along the way.

01 / THE STORY
The morning at The Shelbourne
The photographs begin with glittering shoes, blue flowers and the finishing touches at The Shelbourne. But it’s the people who give the morning its character: laughter around the mirror, hugs before leaving, and Carole’s expressions between the quieter portraits.
There was room for both. A little stillness in the window light, then straight back into the company of her favourite people.
02 / THE STORY
A ceremony at Trinity College
Trinity College gave the ceremony a beautiful setting. The tall windows, timber pews and sweep of the chapel made those wider photographs feel quite different from the close-up moments between Carole and Stephen.
Those are the two sides of a wedding story we love to bring together: the place you chose, and what it felt like to be there. A glance during the ceremony, hands meeting for the rings, and the smiles as they came back down the aisle.
03 / THE STORY
A little theatre, a little quiet
Carole and Stephen were wonderful to photograph together. They could give us a beautifully composed portrait one moment and have each other laughing the next.
We made the most of Trinity’s dramatic interiors, then moved closer for the softer expressions and little moments between them. The photographs have a touch of theatre, but the connection is all theirs.

An arrival worth cheering
Outside, Dublin was having quite a day of its own. Pride, a concert and a huge GAA match had the city packed, and getting across town was an adventure in itself. Their wedding car even had a Garda escort through the crowds.
It was also the first wedding I photographed alongside Declan. I still remember us carrying the gear through crowds in the lashing rain, trying to keep everything moving.
Then, just as Carole and Stephen’s car pulled up at The Shelbourne, the sun came out. American visitors outside the hotel began clapping and cheering as they stepped out. After the journey across the city, it was such a brilliant welcome—and one of those moments you couldn’t arrange if you tried.

Dublin portraits
Back at The Shelbourne, we had the warm interiors, the entrance and the city streets to work with. Carole and Stephen brought the same playful energy to these photographs that they had brought to the whole day.
A turn of the dress, a quiet moment by the window, a few photographs outside: enough to make something beautiful while keeping the celebration moving.

Around the table.
Inside, there were sunflowers on the tables, a striking green wedding cake, and a room full of people ready to celebrate them.
The speeches brought laughter, a few tears and some brilliant reactions. Then came the dancing, with Carole and Stephen surrounded by their guests. Looking back through these photographs, it’s that warmth that stays with me just as much as the grand settings.

One more song.
Carole and Stephen, thank you for such a memorable day. Dublin certainly played its part, but the two of you made it yours.
