Warm autumn colour, waterside portraits and a celebration at The Millhouse
The orange flowers and rust-coloured dresses, the old mill reflected in the water, and Charlie and Steven laughing together: those are the photographs that draw me straight back into this wedding.
I’ve photographed a few weddings at The Millhouse in Slane, and it’s a venue I always enjoy returning to. There’s so much variety to work with, from the bright house interiors to the texture of the mill buildings. Charlie and Steven’s day made lovely use of it all.
The morning and the little details
The morning photographs move between the details and the people: the dress hanging in the wardrobe, the finishing touches to hair and makeup, and big hugs before the ceremony.
Warm orange tones ran through the bouquets, ties and bridesmaids’ dresses. Against Steven’s navy suit and Charlie’s dress, they gave the photographs a beautiful autumn feel.
A ceremony full of expression
Inside the ceremony room, exposed brick, tall windows and chandeliers gave us a wonderful setting. But the photographs I keep coming back to are the close ones: a shared look, Charlie laughing, and that big smile just after the kiss.
The wider frames show the room around them; the little reactions tell the rest of the story. Their walk back down the aisle, with everyone clapping around them, is a lovely way to bring the two together.
Around The Millhouse
Outside, the water gave us some of the strongest photographs of the day. The mill buildings, chimney and clouds were reflected behind Charlie and Steven, making a striking backdrop for their portraits.
We also used the old doors, brickwork and greenery for a mixture of close portraits and wider photographs. There’s a lovely contrast between the quieter embraces and the playful frames of Steven lifting Charlie.
Steven’s cigar portrait beside the water was another favourite, with the mill and clouds reflected behind him.
Back with their people
The photographs with their guests bring a different energy: walking together through the grounds, catching up over drinks, and plenty of laughter outside the house.
Alongside the family and wedding-party portraits, these little unscripted moments deserve their place in the story. They give the gallery its warmth.
Dinner, speeches and dancing
Inside, orange flowers and candles carried the colour through to the tables. The illustrated table cards added another lovely detail to photograph.
The speeches brought smiles, raised glasses and some brilliant reactions from Charlie. Then the photographs take us onto the dance floor, from the two of them wrapped up together to their guests joining in around them.
Charlie and Steven, thank you for having us capture your day. It’s a pleasure to look back through it.
